Foster Carer Fortnight, an annual initiative by The Fostering Network, which aims to raise awareness and shine a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of foster carers and the transformative impact of foster care on vulnerable children and young people. This year’s campaign, themed #FosteringMoments, captures the essence of the fostering journey—highlighting moments of love, growth, and triumph that define this extraordinary vocation.

Running from May 13 to May 26, Foster Carer Fortnight is a time to celebrate the remarkable efforts of foster families. Sefton’s Fostering Service is proud to join this movement, hosting events throughout the borough and sharing heartfelt stories of the impactful moments experienced by our fostering families.

Ginny, a Foster Carer with Sefton since 2017, fondly recalls a touching moment from her fostering journey: "Throughout our years as foster carers, we've experienced so many meaningful moments. Seeing young people off to university, helping them set up their own homes. Our aim has always been to create a space where children truly feel at home and cared for. One memory that really touched me was when a young girl we were looking after said, 'I feel so safe and secure living with you. As soon as my head hits the pillow, I can go to sleep knowing everything will be okay.' It's moments like these that remind us why we love fostering so much."

Councillor Marion Atkinson, Leader of Sefton Council, underscores the significance of this year's theme:

"This year's theme is a poignant reminder of the profound role our foster carers play in the lives of the children they care for. Fostering creates special moments—moments of connection, growth, and hope—that can truly change a child's life forever."

“If you’ve ever thought about helping a child, take the next step and explore further. You'll join a remarkable network of carers, with our experienced team ready to provide invaluable advice and support at every stage of the journey”.

Pressing Demand

Despite ongoing efforts, there remains an urgent need for additional foster carers in Sefton. With just under 600 children and young people in Sefton’s care, the demand for foster homes is pressing. Sefton aims to recruit at least 20 additional carers by the end of the year to meet this need.

Meet Our Carers

During the fortnight, Sefton’s fostering team and carers will be out and about at various events across the borough, including:

Waitrose in Formby on Thursday May 16th and Friday, May 17th - 10am to 1 pm.

Salt & Tar Family Fun Day in Bootle on Saturday, May 25th – 12 to 4 pm.

This is an opportunity to learn more about fostering and find out how you can make a positive difference in a child’s life.
